Origins

A Novella Prequel in the Tethered Wings Series

Book Cover: Origins
Part of the Tethered Wings series:

She was just an ordinary waitress, crushing on a construction foreman.

One night together changed their world.

Their entire world.

By the end, every person on the planet had heard the legend of Trina and Nico.

Fact is stranger than fiction in Origins, the short story prequel in the explosive new series, Tethered Wings.

Reviews:Carol on Good Reads wrote:

Origins is the prequel to the Tethered Wings series by Sabine Priestley. It’s a short novella but you will get to meet the original couple, Nico and Trina, sensari and human, that forever changed the definition of “tethered!”

Nico Roth is Head Foreman at New World Construction in Vega. He is sensari, a winged man. When sensari meet their perfect mate, they tether for life, an unbreakable bond. Vega is a new country where humans and sensari are learning to live and work together. Nico has been having breakfast every morning at Garfunkel’s Diner just to get a short visit with the cute waitress there. It brightens his day to start it with her.

Trina Korathen looks forward to Nico’s visit every morning. He’s such a beautiful man. So she takes the initiative and finally asks him for a drink. They meet after work but don’t end up staying long at the bar. The evening quickly progresses to a night of passionate love making. But when they awake the next morning, it’s obvious something is wrong with Trina. She’s in horrible pain. What is happening to her?

The condition Trina is found in is unprecedented. She’s kept in isolation at the hospital and Nico is kept from seeing her. The longer they are apart, the worse the emptiness is. Finally one of the doctors figures out what is happening and Nico and Trina are quickly catapulted into the center of the news media.

These two set the stage for many couples to come, some of which you will meet in the following books. I am just in love with this series and getting to meet Nico and Trina really helps my overall understanding of the series. I can’t wait to see what Sabine has in store for us next! If you haven’t yet, you can transition right on into Twice Tethered which is already out.

What should have been one night of pleasure results in a second tethering for Morgan, whose mate died four years ago, and a transformation for Priya. Neither should have been possible.

No longer human, Priya is a rare hybrid, scorned by the sensari. As Morgan helps her through the transition, his enemies fight to destroy his company, accusing him of genetically forcing a second tether.

Priya's phone pinged with a new text message.

Got your number from the PR database. So, are you team Morgan or Christopher? I’m honestly torn. Ping me when you’re done 🙂 Tara

Priya’d had a picture of Christopher on her wall for over a year when she was younger. I think I’d have to say Christopher. I had a teenage crush on him.

They should be there in three, two, one…

The office doors opened and Priya shoved her phone in her purse. She crossed her arms, but that seemed like the wrong body language, so she clasped her hands in front of her and tried not to look like an idiot. It was a nice gesture, meeting new employees and all, but she could have done without it.

Christopher was even more gorgeous up close. He wore a perfectly tailored suit which hinted of muscle and screamed power. No sign of his wings.

She’d watched a video online showing how the main ribs telescoped into themselves when retracted. The membrane between was paper thin but strong as steel. She’d found the process oddly erotic.

Christopher’s body briefly filled the doorway before Morgan Steele sauntered into the room. His gaze locked onto her and she was hit by a flash of déjà vu. She was close enough to touch two of the most powerful men in Vega, probably the world, and she couldn’t look away from him.

He finally broke the connection when he followed Christopher with introductions. Standing behind the other recruits, she fought to calm her rioting nerves. What the heck was that? The new shirt she wore had a tag in the side seam and it was poking her. She pulled at the fabric.

Next in line, Christopher’s handshake was firm and professional.

When she came to Morgan she nearly lost her vertical position in the world. His touch sent her body into sensory overdrive. The attraction reached nearly panic proportions and heat flushed from head to toe.

“It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Desai.” His voice was husky and smooth. Sensuality incarnate. And that accent, the way he articulated the common language, damn it was sexy.

She yanked at her shirt again. “Thank you, it’s a pleasure.” Her voice came out steady, thank god, and pleasure was definitely the word.

He released her and motioned for her to follow the others. Just the thought of him right on her heels sent another surge of insane energy through her. She swallowed hard and raised her chin a notch. It was only lunch, what’s the worst that could happen?

The heel of her shoe wobbled and her step faltered. Yep, she’d jinxed it. A warm hand closed around her elbow. All the heat rushed straight to her core and she felt her cheeks flush a second time. He smelled of the forest and rain. How could someone smell like that? This wasn’t good. Looking at him would only make it worse, but she couldn’t ignore him either.

“Erm. Thank you.” That sounded pathetic even to her ears.

“The pleasure is all mine.” His voice was too low for the others to hear and the pleasure was most certainly not all his.

Christopher led them into Morgan’s office where a dining table was set up along with a three-member catering crew. Priya sat as far from Morgan as she could, but it was difficult to keep her eyes off him. There was something just under the surface. Something primal. Sinful. Whatever it was, it called to her on a cellular level.

Christopher guided the conversation, asking each new employee about themselves in turn. She kept her answers simple. Mom and Dad still married. Younger brother, Jake, who was studying electrical engineering and wanted to move to Vega as well. Staying clear of what her mother thought of sensari and Vega in general she answered Christopher’s questions, but Morgan’s presence imbued every word. When their gazes met, his face was a mask, but those ice-blues were intense. The man radiated power and the tilt of his lips hinted at carnal pleasures.

Liberation – Alien Attachments #3

Alien Attachments Book 3

Following the signal of foreign psi to an old abandoned building on Florin 5, Balastar Alder literally stumbles across the pugnacious raven-haired beauty, Kit Athorika.

He’s not the only one who’s looking for the mysterious portal making devices in her possession. When Torogs attack, she ports them to safety. Without the help of a single Portal Master.

Balastar offers to repay the favor by getting her off-planet and back to her own ship. Their escape is complicated when the Torog’s pursue. Forced to go silent and lay-low in an asteroid field, they have little to do. Fortunately, the chemistry between them ignites and they find endless ways to occupy their time.

Balastar convinces her to come and meet his boss, Lord Cavacent. Recently relocated to Earth, the Sandarian clan included a handful of rogue Portal Masters. Kit has her own reasons for hating and fearing the Portal Masters, but she needs all the help she can get to save her planet. She reluctantly agrees to seek out Lord Cavacent’s help, and his connections to the Galactic Trade Organization and its powerful military.

The Portal Masters’ Guild on Sandaria has controlled intergalactic portals throughout the galaxy for centuries, and jealously guard their secrets. One of those secrets has kept Kit’s home world under quarantine for nearly thirty years. But portals across the galaxy are failing and the guild is getting desperate.

Finding themselves bonded wasn’t expected, but having a psi-mate had its advantages. Can Kit and Balastar free an entire planet and take down a guild as old as the Masters without losing their lives?

Excerpt:

"What are you doing?" she said, her voice a hiss. "That's the most congested vector off the planet."

"And because of that, it has the highest hold pattern."

The side of her mouth pulled upward. "You're not going to use the vector."

He winked at her. She was a pilot all right.

"Are you sure this shiny bucket can handle it?"

"She can handle it. Can you?"

"Pfft. I guarantee I've done more vectorless in-and-outs than you'll ever do."

Interesting. The only reason for not using the atmosphere controlled vectors was either to avoid detection or because of the need for speed.

This book is a crazy, sexy, nonstop ride from the beginning to the end as this group once again puts themselves in danger to do the right thing, to free the Vertans and restore order on Sandaria. There are no slow spots in this book, it kept me turning the pages all the way through. I have really enjoyed getting to know all the characters I have met throughout these books but I think Balastar and Kit might be my favorite. I have loved this series from the start and highly recommend it.

“My Lady, My love, My life.”

La Crimson Femme on Amazon wrote:

This is my favourite book in the series to date. Liberation kicks it up a notch with great characters, questions answered and more questions asked! I love it. Balastar Alder is featured in this book. He is not second string to anyone. He previously minored in the first book as a possible mate with Dani. Balastar is the prototype white knight who does everything perfectly. He doesn't have a syndrome to save the damsel in distress. He is the hero who can save the damsel. To think he could ever play second fiddle is just crazy talk.

Balastar's leading lady is Kit Athorika from the mysterious planet with psi different than generally known. Kit is a perfect match to Balastar. Kit is spunky, all heart and just all around love-able. These two characters are appealing and I really liked them. I rooted for them and their sexual chemistry is hawt. The sex in this story is nicely erotic and yet it is the plot of this story which really captures my attention and makes me stay up until the wee hours reading it.

The mysteries of the Portal Masters are revealed and we finally learn more about the Kit's people. For those who enjoyed Morgan Hawke's Interstellar series, this third book contains similar plot elements just without the kink. Kit and Balastar are well matched as they work to free her people. The story is fast paced with the right amount of action interspersed with sexy time. The showdown with the Portal Masters is what really becomes interesting. It opens this world up to more world building which I hope Ms. Priestley will continue. I am intrigued by the new entity, Orion.

I can see the growth in Ms. Priestley's writing with each subsequent book. The characters are better developed and the plot is tighter. The character dialogue is fluid. The read is smoother as the pace flows up and down in an easy cadence to enspell a reader. The imagery in this story is animated and easy to visualize. The hook at the end of the book is well done. Recommended for space opera readers who enjoy feisty females with a sexy heart-breaker hero.

Rebellion – Alien Attachments #2

Ria Montori is no stranger to kicking ass. Though petite in size, she packs a punch as a former Sandarian military officer who currently serves the Cavacent clan on a strange planet called Earth. She has no interest in seeking her one psi-mate who could bring her unparalleled pleasure through a sensual, otherworldly bond. She has no time for a lover of any kind. So why is she lured in by the beguiling Curzan native who just killed a government official?

Ty Sordina hates Ria’s kind. The Sandarians murdered his parents while he watched and enslaved his people. Driven by revenge, he vows that nothing and no one will stand in his way. Especially not a feisty redhead who challenges his every instinct and calls to his psi like no other.

But war is coming. And the two must succumb to temptation for only the power of their completed bond can defeat and destroy the enemy. But only if they surrender…

Excerpt:

“I had to get away from you. From us.”

In that instant, he knew he could never let that happen. He shook his head. Her right arm was bleeding. There was a puncture wound that went all the way through her forearm and a jagged tear, or maybe bite marks, below that. “You’re a mess, Red.” A beautiful fracking mess.

She stood perfectly still as he placed his fingers on either side of the hole, her blood slick under his touch. The psi connection necessary to heal flowed through them both. He had to place his other hand against the bark of the tree she leaned on to steady himself. Once the bleeding stopped, he placed his fingers over the tear. Another deep connection to stop the bleeding, and they both moaned.

The pleasure caused by their psi connection was overwhelming. This was no mere chemistry. She was his psi-mate. There was no question now. Once the bleeding stopped, he let go of her arm.

Her eyes bore into him, and he was lost. He took her hand and led her deeper into the forest until he found the trail he was looking for. They followed it in silence. She never once asked where he was taking her. Their psi danced, and the tension between them increased with every step. Finally, they came to the small one-room hunting shack he’d been coming to in order to get some distance from her.

Ironic.

As they neared the porch, the moonlight caught her hair, and it blazed red. He reached out and pulled a leaf from her tresses before leading her inside.

He knew she wouldn’t protest. She couldn’t stop this anymore than he could. Their psi were deeply meshed together now and simply awaited their bodies to join. They took off their clothes quickly and finally came together with nothing between them.

When finding your mate is everything you could hope for and everything you dread… Neither Ria or Ty are exactly thrilled with finding their psi-mate… not when Ty believes Ria to be part of a military regime that saw his people enslaved and his parents killed… not when Ria watched Ty kill a man in cold blood. Like it or not, though, they are bonded and each night brings prophetic dreams.

I really liked Ria in Alien Attachments. I loved her in Rebellion. This ex-military maven may be petite, but she exemplifies all that is a touted in a redhead. She’s fast, has a bit of a temper and can definitely be deadly if the situation warrants it. She’s also all woman… shopping trips for girly fashions, giggle fests with her bestie and total heartache when she discovers her psi-mate is a cold stone killer… and she wants to know why. She sure didn’t expect to find herself embroiled in a rebellion on a far-flung planet when she sought answers. It seems the whole galaxy has been misled when it comes to the native Curzans of Mitah. These are no illiterate, simple-minded people. Far from it. And, if what she suspects is true they never should have been subjugated to begin with.

Fifteen years ago, Ty watched as his parents were murdered in front of a classroom full of children by a Sandarian soldier. Now their killer is back on Mitah. People are turning up dead. The government is corrupt and there is only so much the underground movement can do and only so fast. He went to the festival to take out a killer. He never expected to be taken down by the woman he shared a glorious night of loving with. Finding out she’s ex-military is just the icing on the cake. Now he’s in the hands of his enemies and his every dream is filled with her. Every moment of his day is filled with pain. Time is limited and if they’re going to find the proof they need to free their people they’re going to have to look past the surface and trust what their bond is telling them.

Rebellion is full of action and adventure. There are plenty of story arcs to keep you busy with Ria and Ty’s romance as well as the ongoing politics of the galaxy. The secondary characters are engaging, if not totally likable. Funny thing is that even though Ria’s co-worker, Armond isn’t all that likable with his standoffishness, I can’t help but want to see where the author might take him. I’m really looking forward to seeing where the Alien Attachment series goes next.

Finding one’s psi-mate is something every Sandarian dreams of. Unfortunately Ian’s family and society would never allow him to bond with a human. And even if he could, Dani would never let some alien voodoo tell her who she was going to spend the rest of her life with. No matter how hot he is.

Waves of pleasure radiated out from his touch. She looked up into his eyes. They truly were the greenest eyes she’d ever seen and as she watched, they began to glow.

Oh, shit. Dani took a slow, shaky breath. She stood in the arms of an alien and this was the point of no return. Did she want to return?

His thumb brushed her lower lip.

The heat in her grew.

“Dani?”

Her name was a rumbling growl that reverberated deep inside. She tingled everywhere.

He leaned forward, his mouth brushed her ear. “I’ll leave if you want me to, just say the word.”

He kissed her neck, tentatively, questioningly.  The heat of his lips melted any resolve she may have harbored. The thought of him leaving her now, in this state, was unbearable. Aroused on every level, she reached her arms around his neck and pressed against him.

This must be a dream. She moaned as he nipped his way down her neck causing little sparks of pain. Her entire body rippled with the effect. If I wake up now, I’m killing the person responsible.

Reviews:Jean on Xtream Delusions wrote:

Alien Attachment is my first exposure to the writings of Sabine Priestley, an exposure I totally enjoyed. Anyone that knows me is aware that I have an affinity for sci-fi romance. I absolutely love the escape possibilities inherent in an alien world. Talk about a vacation your imagination can take you on. In the case of Alien Attachments, the vacation is to the world of Sandaria, the primary home of Ian Cavacent. Also, the home world of the Emperor for the galactic empire, an empire on the verge of falling apart.

Ian is the heir to the Cavacent legacy. His family has owned the rights to mining a rare ore from the Earth that allows FTL travel throughout the galaxy. At the same time they are the protectors of Earth’s clueless inhabitants. For the most part, the travel between his home world of Sandaria and Earth is made via portals. His home on Cat Island is the location of the main portal on Earth, but not the only one. He keeps a team of EPs (Earth Protectors) employed as well as human SAs (Support Agents.) His association with these earth dwellers can be quite entertaining and enlightening. Point in fact, watching his SA Jared’s friend Dani compete in the mixed arts fight ring. She is pure clumsy and yet she unfailingly manages to win time and again. Her latest fight, however, has ended in a few injuries that has Jared asking Ian to use his psi to relieve her pain. The only problem is the minute he touches her their psi starts to bond.

That’s a big problem because… ahem… humans don’t have psi. Well they aren’t supposed to have psi and this human appears to be his psi-mate and her psi is off the charts strong and untrained. She’s also forbidden if he doesn’t want to commit political suicide and irreparably damage his family’s finances. No sooner does he discover this than Torogs are attempting to capture her and assassinate him. A quick getaway sees them off to the questionable safety of Sandaria. Everything soon becomes about avoiding Dani and the potential bond developing between them. The building unrest on Sandaria could prove their undoing or it could very well prove just what this relationship needs.

Dani is a well-traveled photojournalist and mixed arts fighter. She moved to Cat Island to live with her aunt after her parents deaths in a plane crash in her teens. As a teen, she used to work in Jared’s bar. Little did she know that Jared was a support agent for aliens. That is until she found herself in the middle of a shootout and chased by ugly blue-blooded aliens. To top that off she finds herself drawn to Jared’s boss, Ian. The man literally sets her system to buzzing. When she’s told that she has psi abilities it comes as a bit of a shock but she’s a real trouper when it comes to adjusting her life to it’s new realities. The one thing she could do without though is the rude standoffishness of Ian and his father. You’d think after saving his life he’d be just a bit more thankful.

Alien Attachments has that whole forbidden love angle with plenty of chemistry and tension waiting for a culmination. Dani and Ian are like oil and water on the outside but inside the two are like interlocking puzzle pieces. Both are avoiding a relationship, if for totally different reasons. But the power of their psi bond will eventually win out. Alien Attachments promises to be a great series and I’m looking forward to reading the others in the series. If you like sci-fi romance, action, adventure and aliens this one is sure to please.
