Liza O’Connor’s new book and talking Xenophobia!

The amazing Liza O’Connor is taking over today and I know you’re going to enjoy it!

ARE YOU A XENOPHOBE?

In the future, as we meet alien species, Xenophobia will raise its ugly head and become a serious impediment. This shouldn’t be a surprise since we divide groups of people for the most irrelevant of reasons even now.

Skin color, eye shapes, religions, height, weight, hair color and hair texture.

Normal person (Forthwith called NOPE!): Hold on! We don’t divide people by their hair color.

Really? So if a race that were identical to us in all but hair color landed, you don’t think they’d be seen as aliens?

NOPE: No, of course not. We have all different shades of hair… perfectly normal

What if it’s green or purple?

NOPE: Oh, well if it looks like a cheap wig, then I would think them a punk or rock band singer.

What if it’s clearly hair but an unnatural (to us) hair color?

NOPE: Then I would avoid them.

What if they looked exactly like us but could change size at will, growing from a half inch to eight feet tall?

NOPE: I’d run like hell and call the police.

What if they could read your mind?

NOPE: I’d shoot them. I don’t want nobody messing with my mind.

What if they were almost like you with only a one percent difference?

NOPE: But no mind reading or purple hair?

Same hair color possibilities that we have and no ability to read minds.

NOPE: Same size as us?

Maybe a foot or two smaller than you.

NOPE: I guess that’s okay…

Then you’d let them live in your neighborhood and their children play with yours?

NOPE: Sure, as long as there aren’t too many of them. We wouldn’t like them taking over. But it might be fun to have an alien among us. It won’t be too different will it?

You share 99 % of the same genes.

NOPE: Then I’d be okay with it…Wait, it’s not going to be like three times smarter than me, is it? I don’t want to lose my job to an alien.

It has no interest in taking your job.

NOPE: Does that mean it plans to survive on welfare? I don’t approve of welfare.

It will not go on welfare. It will take a job in the entertainment field.

NOPE: Oh, well that sounds great. I’d love to have this alien come and live in our community.

Would you like to see a picture of your new neighbor?

NOPE: Sure.

NOPE: OH HELL NO! I’m getting my gun and if you are here when I return, you need to make peace with God now.

Surviving Sojourn3 vibrant 400 640An alien species is removing human colonies from planets, but to where, no one knows. Sojourn, along with the Emperor’s daughter and their crew, must find this unknown species and negotiate a treaty before the Empire’s army declares war on all non-human races.

Those who do not follow the Path of Light would prefer to kill all the non-human sentient beings before they are even aware they are under attack.

Matters turn bleak for the Path of Light when Sojourn’s ship crash-lands on Terranue before their journey even begins.

Excerpt

As the general listened to Shakana’s concerns, his frown deepened. When she finished making her case for the need for interrogations of all security, he seemed almost devastated. “These men have faithfully supported your father all through their careers.”

She nodded. “I know. And I want to trust them. That’s why I need them to pass this test. I need to know if they support my cause.”

“And if they don’t?”

He had just voiced her worst fear. “I pray that will not be the case. However, I have learned that people you trust with all your heart can disappoint.”

His eyes hardened. “You speak of your fiancé.”

Anger filled her. “I speak of Sanders, the man who was once my betrothed, until he betrayed my father and me.”

The general frowned. “You do not know for certain…”

“Rumson’s fleet waited for us at Paragon 6. The only person who believed that was our destination was Sanders.”

“Why would you lie to your fiancé?”

Why was Bronson trying to place her in the wrong? Thank Gods she had lied to Sanders or they’d all be dead now. “I had reason to doubt his loyalty to our cause. His anger when he discovered I had changed the laws to account for the addition of Oceanic was not rational.”

“Nonsense. It only proved he did not like being betrayed by the woman who would be his empress.”

That Bronson was so quick to defend her ex-fiancé shouldn’t have surprised her—he had always shown great deference to Sanders—but still, it hurt. “Rumson’s fleet waiting at Paragone 6 proved I was right to doubt him. I believe Sanders is a Xenophobe.”

Instead of insisting she was wrong, the general stared at his hands. “So you are declaring all Xenophobes as enemies of the Empire?”

She carefully considered his question along with his worried expression. Was he worried for Briggs, or did this run deeper? “I do not doubt that some very good men may be Xenophobes by education. If so, we must re-educate them. Unfortunately, until we have the time, they cannot accompany me on my Path of Light.”

The general shook his head. “Shaman Abraham did his job well. Too well. He has blinded you from all rational thought with his prophecies and Paths of Light.”

His words shocked her. “Bronson, what are you saying?”

Her general met her gaze, his eyes dark and defeated. “I have followed your father down many dark paths.” His giant hands twisted and wrung each other as if in their own private battle. “All our hopes rested upon you. With Sanders as your guide, we intended to bring you to the path of sanity, make you see the world as it is rather than as the shaman priests wish it to be.”

Tears streamed down her face as she realized her beloved Bronson was her enemy. How could a man who had spent his whole life protecting the royal family be part of the fringe opposition who wished to kill all other sentient beings in the universe?

He reached into his vest and pulled out a gun. Gods! Was he going to commit suicide over his betrayal right in front of her?

“Bronson, don’t. We’ll get you help. Perhaps Shaman Troy can bring you back to the Path of Light.”

To her shock, he turned the gun toward her.
